The Macan compact crossover SUV changed the game for Porsche when it arrived in US showrooms two years ago. Since then, the sporty crossover has helped Porsche to achieve both high profit margins and sales volume. At the same time, its relatively affordable price point allowed the legendary performance brand to reach a broader group of buyers. This week, Porsche introduced a Performance Package for the top-of-the-line Macan Turbo. It's the most powerful version of the Macan SUV to date.

With the package, the Macan Turbo's twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 gets bumped up to 440 horsepower (40 horsepower more) and 442 pound-feet of torque (an increase of 36 pound-feet). The car is able to reach 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds quicker than the regular Macan Turbo, and a higher top speed of 169 mph, up five mph. The Macan Turbo was already quicker than its competition, but the new pack increases the performance gap between the Audi SQ5, Mercedes-AMG GLC43, and BMW X3.

In addition to the power upgrades above, buyers get a new brake system, a lower chassis, the Sport Chrono package and a sport exhaust system. The front brakes are about an inch bigger, and the calipers are painted red. PASM, Porsche active stability management, is also included. The system lowers the car and stiffens up the suspension. Optional equipment includes 21-inch 911 Turbo design wheels, LED headlights equipped with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus, and other black styling elements. The Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package is on sale now with a starting price of $86,445.
